Two Steam Trains
On some weekends two steam hauled trains operate, or a steam train and a rail motor, or a steam train and a diesel train. Services depart from Clarence at hourly intervals from 10.00 to 3.00.
Short Train Ride
Those with limited time to experience the Zig Zag Railway may make a short return journey to Top Points. This service operates when there are two passenger trains running (every Sunday and two train service days) and takes about 45 minutes.
Walk & Ride
For those looking for chance to combine fitness and fun, it is possible to bushwalk and ride the train. By purchasing a single ticket, visitors may walk from Clarence Station to Bottom Points Station, enjoying amazing scenery, unique Blue Mountain Flora and Fauna, and encountering many great photo opportunities. This walk changes with the seasons and allows you to appreciate the blue Mountain Heritage Listed Wilderness and the engineering feats and architecture of the Zig Zag’s construction. Check with our ticket officer for times of the return rides. The walk is mainly downhill and takes approximately 45 minutes. Walkers may relax by catching a train uphill from Bottom Points back to Clarence.
While the first part of the walk out of Clarence is reasonable going, the lower part is steep with many steps and definitely not suitable for those of impaired mobility.
School Tours
The railway offers special tours for schools, at special rates - with teachers and parents free of charge. Special times can be arranged - both earlier and later departures than the standard times. Lunch can be provided - or bring your own and share with the Zig Zag Kangaroos. Zig Zag Packages are available for classroom follow up with History, Photographs, Crosswords and Games.
