WORKSHOP AND INFRASTRUCUTURE

ONE TEAM, MANY PATHWAYS

The Infrastructure & Workshop team is made up of both paid employees and volunteers working side-by-side towards a common goal. The Infrastructure & Workshop Crew are responsible for maintaining, restoring and improving the locomotives, rolling stock, buildings, track and facilities that keep Zig Zag Railway operating.

Working together, our team includes qualified tradespeople, engineers, apprentices and volunteers who share a passion for preserving railway heritage and developing practical skills.

No previous railway experience is required.

Some team members join us with extensive trade qualifications and industry experience, while others are taking their first steps into engineering, construction or railway maintenance. Whether you’re an experienced professional, a future apprentice or someone keen to learn new skills, there is a place for you on the team.

Our paid staff bring professional trade, engineering and technical expertise to the railway, while our volunteers contribute thousands of hours each year supporting maintenance, restoration and infrastructure projects. Both are highly valued members of the Zig Zag Railway team and play an essential role in keeping the railway operating.

Many people choose to volunteer simply because they enjoy the work, the friendships and the opportunity to contribute to a unique heritage organisation. Others may be exploring future career opportunities or looking to gain practical experience in a supportive environment.

WHAT DOES THE TEAM DO?
