In 1985, Zig Zag Railway purchased five ballast hoppers of two different types from Tasmania. Both classes had vacuum brakes that were converted to Westinghouse after delivery to Zig Zag.

QG wagons are side dump four-wheeled ballast wagons, suitable for Goods trains only, Steel Construction, Plain Bearings built by Launceston Railway Workshops. Road Numbers: – QG6, QG9, QG22.
